battery charger

Sterling Battery to Battery Charger
Price: £299.99

The general rule is that the best way to charge a battery is using a 4 step battery charging curve which cannot be achieved from a standard alternator or split charge relay circuit.
The system enables one to simply attach the Battery to Battery Charger to a standard engine battery and it will fool the alternator into working at its maximum ability, this will ensure all its surplus power is used to charge the auxiliary battery bank to its maximum capacity.

The unit is designed to use only the surplus power and ensures that at all times the power required to run the primary system (the vehicle system or the boat engine) is not affected. The surplus power is converted into a higher voltage and used to charge a secondary battery bank using a digitally controlled programmable 4 step charging curve. In a nutshell it charges your extra battery system about 5 times faster than it would otherwise charge and puts about 100% extra use full power into them and increases the life of the battery by de-sulphating them.

The unit monitors the engine start battery, the unit will not start until the battery voltage exceeds 13 volts, then it waits for 2.5 minutes to ensure that some charge is replaced after engine start, it then pulls the engine battery down to no less than 13 volts, this enables the engine battery to still receive a charge and ensures the alternator works at its full potential to further ensure the engine battery is OK.
The unit is equipped with automatic stop start and fitted with a battery temperature sensing system, ensuring that the batteries are never overcharged or damaged.

Features

Installation involves connect to your starter batteries and to your domestic battery, job done, makes for a clean and tidy installation.
No direct connections to the standard engine alternator, thus on new installations there is no extra wiring for a split charger system.
Ensures the engine battery if maintained and well looked after.
Multiple units can be used, for example if you have a 60 amp alternator and 3 battery banks (engine, domestic, other ) then 2 of these can be used to run the additional and domestic system. Their internal programs will adjust their charger patterns to accept the other unit and ensure only the excess power is used and the primary system is not placed in jeopardy.
Ensures there is no voltage rise on the engine management system, to ensure no alarms or damage to the system be it an outboard, or a car, or a boat.
No vehicle warranty issues as you are not connected to the main system.

The Battery Monitor
Price: £119.99

The fitting of a Battery Monitor would compliment any Battery to Battery Charger installation.

The Battery Monitor is designed to check the  performance of 12 volt battery systems with capacities of up to 650 Amp hours. It is supplied complete with a precision 100 AMP shunt and a prefabricated cable assembly to enable a tidy installation. The unit continuously monitors voltage, current (charge or discharge), number of amp/hours (charge or discharge), the batteries state of charge and the time to charge or discharge. This information leads to more efficient use of the battery, which can enhance battery life and reduce the risk of failure. This product (when fitted with a Battery to Battery Charger) would also give you a guideline as to how long you would need to run the engine to charge the batteries.

Specifications;

Supply voltage = 8 - 16 Volts DC

Supply current = 3 milliamps

Battery capacities = 5 - 650 AMP Hour
